Community Policing Rooted in Kano


Community policing project remain one of the key achievements of president Muhammad Buhari which he will be remembered and honoured when the history of policing and security is written. The Inspector General of police IGP Alkali Usman Baba has asserted.

The IGP while reiterating the Nigerian Police determination in curtailing the excesses of crime and criminality in the country was speaking at the flag up of a two days workshop for stakeholders in community policing in Kano State stressed Wednesday.

The training workshop which is being organised across the six geo-political zones of the country is designed to deepen the implementation of the community Policing model.

IGP Baba pointed out that community Policing is undoubtedly the way to go in the drive to effectively address the complex and challenging dynamics of crime and mitigate the challenges associated with the current and emerging internal security realities.

Since the commencement of the phase of community policing in Nigeria, he said, lots of grounds has been covered that includes the recruitment, kitting, training and deployment of community policing stakeholders in the community policing implementation.

He explained that the he president deserves Commendation for adopting and approving the system of policing model as the internal security strategy of the country.

He revealed that community policing is not a new lexion in policing practice but a time tested law enforcement model that focuses on sharing the responsibility of of communal safety and security with the citizens through the adoption of the well founded principles of partnership between the police and the citizens they serve towards mutually identifying security threats and building trust and synergy in solving them.

Baba said it’s implementation process is cost effective and an all society approach of management of fear to crime and security threats.
