9 people Confirmed Dead, 8 Injured in Kano Gas Explosion as confirmed by the Kano State Police Command Saturday.
The state Command’s public relations officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa in a press release disclosed that 9 person’s that has lost their lives as a result of the explosion are a welder Ejike Vincent a Chemical Seller, Michael Adejo, aTea Seller Musa Kalla, Christiana, Abosade, Mary, Austine Dada, Madam Owoleke, Omo Ben and Bose Oladapo.
Some students of Winners Kids Academy opposite the collapsed building who sustained minor injuries as a result of shock waves were treated and discharged. .
Preliminary investigation revealed that, among the 9 victims of the explosion is a suspected illicit storer of toxic chemicals and other hazardous materials who was later identified as Michael Adejo, now late.
The suspected Gas Chemical Explosion that occurred last Tuesday at No. 01 Aba/Court Road Sabon Gari Quarters Kano led to a building collapse which housed four shops and residential apartment,
Items recovered at the scene include; Five Bottles of different brands of Acidic Liquid, three Bags of Potassium substance, One Jeri can of mixed chemicals, Six and a half Cartons of Snuff, Tobacco, Five Drums of Polymer Chemical.
Technical Investigation conducted by the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence (EOD-CBRN) revealed that the explosion is suspected to have occurred as a result of mixed Chemical and Gas reactions exposed to a source of heat, related to fire, sparks or increase in pressure resulting in combustion and shock waves which created an explosion with devastating shattering effects.
Arrests have been made linking one of the collapsed shop with dealings in sales of illicit, toxic chemical substances and combustible materials suspected to be used for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Evidence of purchase was also recovered.
Investigation is in progress to unearth more mysteries.
