    Bogoro council boss charges journalists against sensational reporting

    The  Executive Chairman of Bogoro local government area of Bauchi State, Honourable Iliya Habila has urged journalists to champion the crusade of peaceful coexistence among citizens of the state by avoiding sensational reports that threatens peace.

    The Chairman gave the charge at Bogoro local government council in Bauchi, when he received a delegation of members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Bauchi council led by it’s Chairman, Umar Sa’idu as part of activities to mark it’s 2020 press week.
    He said that journalists as purveyors of news, information, education and entertainment contents, should arrive to ensure that there is peace and security as it is the basic ingredients for development.

    “Your pivotal role in connecting societies together, the surveillance role and vantage position of setting agenda for the society are unique roles that you must deliver in the most responsible manner if our society will attain the development zenith which we aspire”

    “As leaders whether at the federal, state or local level, the first and paramount responsibility of government is to ensure the security of lives and property of citizens. When this achieved, then a conducive atmosphere for development will have been created.

    While it is the duty of every citizens to contribute to the attainment of this peaceful and secured environment, we as journalists are at the forefront in this onerous task” he said Highlighting on some of the achievements of his administration at the council, Mr Iliya said that the council under his leadership has assisted over 200 women and Youths across the local government with cash ranging from N10,000 to N15,000 for small businesses, adding that the council has trained 70 women on maternal , neonatal and child health.

    In the areas of water, Sanitation and hygiene, the Chairman said that the council has provided improved latrines in public places, rehabilitated water facilities and repaired over 100 boreholes as well as empowered communities to embark on hygiene and sanitation activities.

    In his address, the State NUJ Chairman, Umar Sa’idu urged the Bauchi State Government to ensure prompt release funds to local government councils in the state particularly those that are doing well in the area of rural development. 

    Umar Said observed that the LGCs need to be supported by the government to enable them embark on developmental projects saying that the bulk of the development is in the rural areas of the state. 

    He commended the Executive Chairman of Bogoro LGC, Iliya Habila for embarking on people oriented projects since his election saying that what is needed at the grassroots is focus on supporting rural dwellers with empowerment materials that will support their peasant activities.

    Ramadan feeding: Kano governor debunk budgeting N6bn



    Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has debunked allegations of earmarking N6 billion for the current Ramadan feeding program as reported by various media outlets.

    The governor who spoke through his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Sunday stressed that it is visibly clear to the comprehension of the general public that the speculations on spending such amounts of money for the Ramadan feeding programme is untrue.

    It is pertinent according to him to address members of the public on the activities and issues related to the Ramadan feeding funded by Kano State Government which started within the first week of the Holy month.

    He explained that, the actual amount earmarked and approved by the Governor for the 2024 Ramadan feeding program is N1, 190, 790,000:00. This amount according to him is expected to cater for one hundred feeding centers across eight metropolitan local governments with each center expected to feed at least one thousand people daily.

    The aim of this programme, he said is to support those in need, particularly who cannot be able to feed themselves during the holy month of Ramadan which includes people living with disability, almajiris, orphans and other vulnerable groups.

    “As you must have been aware, recently His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has undertook an impromptu visit to one of the centers at Gidan Maza, in Kano Municipal local government during which he expressed disappointment over the sub-standard quality of the food served to the beneficiaries.

    This according to Dawakin Tofa underscores his unwavering commitment to the state in the implementation of government projects and programmes.

    Bases on this development, he further explained is that the governor instantly summoned an emergency meeting with the committee saddled with the responsibility of the Ramadan feeding to re-direct the implementation of the exercise to a more responsive , transparent and accountable manner that can guarantee efficiency and value for money as designed in the initial proposal of the feeding programme which he approved.

    Details of the review after the governor’s unscheduled visit would be made available to the public within the next 24 hours according the chief press secretary.

    “We are pleased to acknowledge the generous contribution and support receive from various stakeholders as a result of His Excellency’s appeal to philanthropists, and other wealthy individuals to join hands with him in the noble work of supporting the vulnerable members of the society.”

    So far, the state government has received the contributions of Alhaji Aliko Dangote who supported Kano residents with 120,000 bags of 10kg rice that was distributed Saturday.

    The state has also received from the federal government a total of 100 trucks of 25kg rice, 44 trucks of Sorghum, 14 trucks of Millet, 41 trucks of Maize which will be distributed across the 484 wards in the 44 local government areas of the state within the week.

    Apart from the palliatives received from Alhaji Aliko Dangote and President Bola Tinubu, the state government in partnership with local governments is procuring approximately additional 132 trucks of 25kg of rice to be distributed across the 44 local government areas within the Ramadan period.

    House of Reps member commissioned 3km road in Kano

    A federal house of representatives Member, representing Kura, Madobi and Garun Malan federal constituency, Kabiru Idris Danhassan has flagged off the construction of road from Tsohuwar tasha Danhassan to Runfar Shaba along Danga road in Kura local government area.

    Performing the flag off  on behalf of the legislator, the personal Assistant to the member, Sabo Abdulkadir Ahmad stated that the move was part of the member’s effort to ease people’s welfare and mobility taking into consideration the beneficiaries of the project were mostly farmers.

    Abdulkadir further explained that since the election of Kabiru Idris Danhassan as member, he is putting all his best to bring beneficial projects to his constituency and he will not relent, Sabo maintained.

    He then called on the people in the three local government areas the member is representing to reciprocate the gesture to him for future engagement as well as solicit for continual support and cooperation.

    In his addresse, the village head of Danhassan, Alhaji Ada’u Sani Danhassan expressed delight and satisfaction with what the member is being doing at all his constituency in the areas of education, health and agricultural empowerment programs providing job opportunities among others.

    Alhaji Ada’u Sani therefore reiterated that the people of Danhassan will never forget with the effort of the member of improving the living standard of people from the three local government areas through the execution of liable projects at all the nooks and crannies.

    He further explained that they always stand with him where he move and ready to re-elect him in order to continue enjoying more dividends of democracy.

    Earlier in his welcome address,one of the APC elders in the area , Alhaji Shuaibu Muhammad Nababa commended the member for his tireless efforts and assured continues support of the member at all times.

    The Engineer of the project,Engineer Abubakar Muhammad assured quality and timely completion of the project.

    In development the member has distributed cripple tricycles bike generators and bicycles to some peoples of constituency.

    Distributing the items Kabiru Idris Danhassan said that the move is part of his efforts to assist the less privileged and make them to become self reliance

    Kano gov’t impose dusk to dawn curfew after declaration of NNPP candidate governor – elect.



    Kano state government has imposed dusk to dawn curfew across the 44 local governments area  of the state after the declaration of Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigerian People’s Party NNPP governor-elect.

    The state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Muhammad Garba who made the announcement early hours of Monday revealed that the decision became imperative to prevent hoodlums from distrupting peace as the atmosphere is already tense.

    Garba advised people of the state to remain indoors while security agents will not hesitate to arrest anyone nor spare any group of people that are hell bent on causing chaos. 

    Earlier, the former governor of Kano state Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has called for fairness in the elections disclosing that he would not be happy with any form of chaos following an announcement of results in the state.

    The former governor, much earlier express worry as he revealed a move by disgruntled elements to declare the election inconclusive.
